Let Us Pray

St.  Anne, Mother of Our Lady: According to pious tradition, St. Anne's husband was St. Joachim; both were of the tribe of Juda and the royal house of David.  They endured the terrible trial of childlessness for 20 years, but finally, after many prayers, St. Anne learned from an angel that she would bear a child.  This child was the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Messiah.  A tradition says that St. Anne spent the last years of her life in prayer and austerity in the desert.
