Let Us Pray

Merciful God, Who hast shown compassion to so many heathen nations through Thy faithful servant St. Boniface, we humbly pray Thee to revive and preserve that Faith which he preached in Thy holy Name, that we may receive Thy revelation with a faithful heart, and so regulate our lives as to gain the Heavenly Kingdom, through Jesus Christ Our Lord.  R. Amen.
Preserve and increase, we beseech Thee, O God, the faith of Thy children, and lead back to the True Fold all those who have been separated or have separated themselves from it, through Christ Our Lord.  R. Amen.

St. Boniface, Apostle of Germany: St. Boniface was born of noble Anglo-Saxon parents in Devonshire, England around the year 680.  He became a Benedictine priest and later a bishop.  The pope authorized him as metropolitan of Germany beyond the Rhine, and he evangelized Upper Hessia, Hessia, Thuringia, and pagan Saxony.  St. Boniface converted a huge group of pagans at Geismar after cutting down an oak tree considered sacred to the pagan god Thor without suffering any punishment from the god.  St. Boniface founded nine episcopal sees, established the Catholic hierarchy in Germany, founded several monasteries, reformed the Frankish Church, crowned King Pepin, consecrated Archbishops for Rheims, Sens and Rouen, and was in charge of missionary work in The Netherlands.  St. Boniface and 52 companions were martyred by pagans in 754.  His body rests in the cathedral crypt at Fulda, Germany.
