St. Louis, King of France: Son of Louis VIII and the pious but domineering Queen Blanche of Castille, Louis was born in 1 215. He was proclaimed King Louis IX at age 11. He was a most Christian ruler-ascetical, kind, and just. Louis and his wife had 11 children. Louis built the Chapel Royal to enshrine the relics of the True Cross and the Crown of Thorns. He died of the plague on a crusade in 1270. His relics were destroyed by the French revolutionists. St. Louis is Co-Patron (along with St. Elizabeth of Hungary) of the Third Order of St. Francis.
