Let Us Pray
O God, distributor of heavenly gifts, Who united in the angelic youth, Aloysius, wonderful innocence of life to an equal severity of penance, grant, through his merits and prayers, that we who have not followed the example of his innocence may imitate his practice of penance, through Our Lord Jesus Christ. R. Amen.
St. Aloysius Gonzaga, Patron of Chri,5tian Youth: Born in 1568 in Lombardy, Italy, St. Aloysius, as a member of the noble Gonzaga family, was destined for a life in the military, at court, and in government. But at age 17, he abdicated and renounced everything to become a Jesuit. He was admirable for his great penance and austerities, both before and after entering the Society of Jesus. St. Aloysius died in 1591, at age 23, before reaching ordination to the priesthood. Many miracles followed immediately upon his death, and the Church has declared him Patron of Christian Youth.
