Fourth Day

Introductory Prayer to Mary,
the Mother of Christ.

O dearest Virgin, O Mother of Christ, thou hast loved Jesus with a perfect love. O most holy Mother, we too wish to love Him as our Way, our Truth, and our Life.  He is love itself.  And our desire is that He rule, teach, and sanctify us, for He is the King of kings, the Prophet of prophets, and the Priest of priests.  His yoke is sweet and to serve Him is to rule.  He is, the Light of the World, and whosoever follows Him does not walk in darkness.  He is the Light of Life, who inspireth life into those that seek Him. O Mary, thou art the Seat of wisdom.  Thou didst listen to, he sayings of thy royal Son at Nazareth, and hast kept all these words, pondering them in thy heart. O dear Mother of our Lord, let thy finger point out the path our feet shall tread if we are to follow Jesus.  We have been blinded by passion and prejudice, and fail to recognize His footsteps.  Place thy Protecting arm on our shoulder as a special sign of thy love, O Virgin most prudent, and lead us on the path of glory which thy Son has traced out for us

Intention: To follow Christ.

O Mary Immaculate, mirror of purity, by thy divine motherhood, by thy joys and sorrows we ask thee for the grace to know and love our only Master, Christ.  Let our chief study henceforth be to learn more about His wonderful personality and the doctrine which He taught the world. O Mother of Eternal Truth, write on the walls of our heart His commandments of love, that we may never offend His holy will.  In short, O most amiable Virgin, help us to become daily more like to Him, other Christs.

Prayer for the seven gifts.

O purest Queen, O Mother of Christ, thy Son and thou are the spotless ideals of virtue which the Holy Spirit has placed as models before the eyes of men.  We wish to follow your virtuous example faithfully.  However, to do so, O Virgin renowned, we need the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.  Obtain for us, therefore, O Mary, the spirit of Wisdom, that we may direct all our actions to God; the spirit of Understanding, that we may learn the divine mysteries of our religion: the spirit of Counsel, that we may diligently seek the surest ways of pleasing God: the spirit of Fortitude, that we may overcome with courage all the obstacles which oppose our salvation: the spirit of Knowledge, that we may be enlightened in the ways of God: the spirit of Piety, that we may serve God with greater fervor: and finally, the spirit of Fear, that we may not fall back into our past sins.  In return for these gifts O Mother of divine grace, we consecrate to Jesus and thee our soul with all its powers, our body with all its senses, and our heart with all its affections.  Accept, O Mother of Christ, the offer which we make to thee this day.  Amen.

Five Our Fathers and Hail Marys.

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy!  Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope!  To thee do we cry poor banished children of Eve.  To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.  Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
